Legion of Mary

About

Founded in Dublin, Ireland, by Frank Duff in 1921, the Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church. Our local praesidium, Love, was established at Holy Family on August 5, 1992.

The Legion’s purpose is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members and the spiritual renewal of the world. Members seek to deepen their Catholic faith, bring others closer to Christ, and serve the Church through prayer and works of mercy.

The Legion offers three levels of membership: active members, who perform two hours of apostolic work each week; auxiliary members, who support the mission through daily prayer; and junior members, open to youth after First Communion through age 18.

Typical works include evangelization, home and nursing home visits, religious education, and promoting devotion to the Blessed Mother through the Pilgrim Virgin Statue and the Rosary. Meetings include prayer, reflection, and reports of members’ weekly spiritual works, and are held every Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
